I love how hanging curtains can transform a room! It just gives it a little something extra, and I am all here for it! I have learned that hanging curtains high and wide above your window makes your room feel bigger and gives a more luxurious look! Just keep reading if you want to see how to hang curtains the right way!

What You Need

How To Hang Your Curtains

Hang Them High and Wide!

I suggest hanging your curtains as high as possible, especially if you have a low ceiling. This will create the illusion of your room being bigger. Hanging the curtains wide has the same effect. I also love being able to utilize the whole window when the curtains are open as well.

Brush the Floor

Curtains look so much more luxurious when they brush the floor. If you do not want them to touch the floor, having your curtains hover right above the floor looks great too!

Step 1 | Measurements

First, you will need to take a look at your window and determine how you want the curtains to sit. I like when they are as close to the ceiling as possible, but the bottom of the curtains still brushes the floor.

I also measure the width of the window and add a few inches to both sides, so the curtains do not block too much of the window when they are opened. Also, I make sure that the curtains will close completely based on how wide the rod will sit.

Doing this will help determine what size curtains and curtain rod you will need for your project!

Step 2 | Installing Curtain Rod

Having a ladder for this step will come in handy, so you can see what you are doing at eye level.

Based on your measurement, take a pencil and mark where you want your bracket to sit on one side. Next, take your level and draw another mark where the other bracket will be on the other side of the window. Having a laser level makes this step a breeze!

Whether you are drilling into drywall or a stud will determine if you need drywall anchors or not. If you need to use the anchors, follow the package instructions to install them. If drilling right into a stud, I find it easier to use a small drill bit to create a hole for the screw and then use the drill to place the screw into the wall.

Now that you have your brackets hung on the wall, it is time to place the rod into the brackets.

Yay! The hardest part is done!

Step 3 | Hang Your Curtains

I like to place the curtains on the rod next.

Once your curtains look just how you want them to, tighten the small screw on the back of the brackets, so the rod will stay in place whenever you open and close your curtains.
