10 Tips for A Clean Home To Keep You Organized

Do you ever feel like your house is never clean, and you constantly have a ton of chores to do?! I so feel you if you do! My house is definitely not the cleanest home in the entire world. Most days I don’t really feel like cleaning tbh. 😊 However, there are some simple things that I do every day for a clean and organized home. I’ve come up with a list of 10 tips for a clean home that can help you stay organized! These tips work for me personally, although I don’t do each one every day, I try to!

I personally feel like I am more productive when I don’t have to think about cleaning up the house and can instead focus on the task at hand. (whatever that may be!)

My 10 Tips for A Clean Home To Keep You Organized

1. Pick something up to put away each time you leave a room

I try to do this all the time! Every time you leave a room, pick something up that doesn’t belong there and put it away. To make this a habit, I look for something that doesn’t belong in the room that I am currently in. Whenever I leave that room, I take what doesn’t belong and put it away.

The thing I do this the most for in my own home would have to be dishes. There are always cups all around the house! So, if I’m in the bedroom and I’m about to leave and go to the kitchen, I will grab any cups I see and take them. This makes cleaning so much easier! I like to be able to do the dishes in one swoop, instead of mystery dishes turning up!

2. Baskets are my best friend!

BASKETS! I love myself some baskets to help with keeping a clean and organized home! I literally use baskets all over the house and they have been so awesome at keeping things organized. Personally, I feel like when you put things into baskets it just makes it look more organized, and it’s prettier to look at. (is that weird?!)

I love how it’s so easy to find everything I need!

I personally like to use baskets in the pantry to organize and sort similar foods into the same basket. Cleaning supplies go into baskets above the washer and dryer. I feel like this helps the space look less cluttered and more organized. My favorite place to use the baskets as of late is in the bathroom! I have a few different baskets located under the sink and it helps keep all of my items so organized! Using baskets has helped me so much in being able to find things with ease!

3. Everything should have a home

I definitely believe that everything that is in my house should have a home. This means that everything I own has a place that it goes and can be put away. I think this helps a lot with the car keys and my purse, and things that are easily lost! We have hooks on the wall right when you walk in the door from the garage. Putting our keys here has helped tremendously! No more wasting time looking for your car keys!

This is one of my favorite of the 10 tips for a clean home! I use this methodology for everything in the house, and it helps to keep things so organized and clean! Otherwise everything would be piling up everywhere!

4. Wash and put away the dishes before you go to bed

If the kitchen is clean, I feel like that makes the whole house seem so much cleaner! I don’t know what it is, maybe because it’s one of the busiest rooms in the whole house. To keep my home clean and organized, I like to do dishes throughout the day, instead of waiting until after dinner to clean the whole day’s dishes. I feel like if you clean up after you use something, it doesn’t become as overwhelming and it’s easier to do. Also, who doesn’t love to wake up to a clean kitchen?! It just helps my day start off so much better!

5. Use the Marie Kondo folding method

This way of folding clothes has changed my life! For real though, it is awesome! You can definitely google or look Marie Kondo up on YouTube and see so much helpful information! I like how her folding method allows the clothes to stand up on their own when you set them down. When you place your folded clothes into the drawer, you are able to see each piece of clothing. This helps to keep my drawers so much more organized! You don’t have to rip through your clothes to find a shirt on the bottom, you can tell which one you want just from a glance!

6. Do one load of laundry a day

Laundry, one of the chores I dread the most… Something that I have started to do is put in one load of laundry a day. I also make sure that I fold and put the clothes away, because sometimes the clean clothes can sit there for a while. Doing one load makes it so much easier and I don’t put off doing laundry as much since I don’t have a whole bunch to do in one day.

7. Clean one part of your home every day

I have been doing this tip for years and swear by it! I love splitting up the cleaning throughout the whole week. If I clean the entire house in one day, it takes hours of my time and then I don’t feel like doing anything else afterward.

I have split up my cleaning responsibilities into categories and try to clean each area once a week. For example, I have 6 general categories:

  • Bathrooms
  • Dusting
  • Vacuum
  • Mop
  • Back Yard
  • Sweep Porches

Whenever I clean one area of my house, I put it in the calendar on my phone, so I remember when it was last cleaned. This system is what works best for me, but it could be done in various different ways.

8. Clean the kitchen as you are cooking

This is something that my mom taught me growing up, and I have found it to make my life a whole lot easier when implemented! Whenever I’m cooking or making a meal, I clean the dishes as I go. When I don’t do this, the dishes in the sink keep piling up and I keep putting them off.

It’s easier to clean as you go with some meals more than others. However, I try to do it the best I can! I love that it helps me keep a clean and organized home!

9. Touch it once

I have found that this is a great tip for a clean and organized home! Touch everything only once. I like to do this because if I don’t then I will just keep moving things out of the way, but never actually put them away where they belong.

An example of how I used to do this all the time is with laundry. I would take the clothes out of the dryer and put them on my bed to fold. However, I would usually forget about them or just not want to fold the clothes and leave them on my bed. When it was time for bed, I would just move all the clothes onto my dresser. Now I like to just fold and put away the clothes as soon as I take them out of the dryer. You can use this method with so many different things around your home! It makes such a different in keeping a clean and organized home on a daily basis!

10. Make your bed

I bet you have heard someone say that you should make your bed every day! There’s a reason that so many people suggest this for keeping a clean and organized home, because it works! When I make my bed in the morning, my room feels and looks more put together. Plus, it motivates me to keep the rest of my home clean and organized. Starting off the day with a positive mind set helps to establish the mood for the rest of the day. Something about having a clean and organized home helps to put me in a good mood and think clearly! It’s a great way to start a positive and productive day!
